The purpose of the PGS is to improve the lives of physics graduate students by facilitating communication between them and the physics faculty at Cornell. Our goals include disseminating important information to graduate students and acting as a formal voice for graduate students in the workings of the department. Additionally, the PGS fosters community among physics graduate students by organizing social events and discussion forums.

Posted October 1, 2009, by Curran Muhlberger

Welcome to the newly redesigned PGS website! By now nearly all of our pages have been migrated to the new look, and more importantly, their links have been fixed and their information has been updated. PGS will be bringing back some favorite events from the past this semester, including lab tours, “truth sessions”, and movie nights, so keep your eye on our calendar and check your e-mail often. Also be on the lookout for a brand new “Tips & Tricks” section on our website, coming this winter.

  • Interested in helping plan PGS activities and events? Your help is greatly appreciated! Please email mhh32 today.
  • The PGS is happy to announce weekly research presentations and grad-directed tours of Cornell research labs for undergrads and new grads. See our research page for more info, or email mhh32 to volunteer to give a tour of your lab!
  • Check out our information on fellowships and postdoc positions.
  • Schrodinger's Cat will be the new 2006 physics tshirt. Congratulations to Pierre Thibault for designing this winning shirt! Check out the design here. Shirts will be available for pickup soon for those who placed advance orders by Monday 23 October. Stay tuned to email for pickup details.
  • We are compiling old TA materials (example problems, quizzes, etc.) to help reduce your workload and old grad course syllabi and assignments to help you decide which grad courses to take. To share your materials or see someone else's, contact Mohammad Hamidian (mhh32).
  • We still have a few cookbooks left for $8 each, which you can pick up at the weekly coffee hour (3-4 pm Wednesdays in the grad lounge). A PGS fundraiser, these cookbooks contain favorite recipies of physics grads and profs.
