Student Expo 2006
Every October a group of alumni ambassadors for Cornell return to campus for the Trustee-Council Annual Meeting (TCAM). This year these leaders who are members of the Cornell University Council will be here October 26th-28th. They'll spend a busy weekend attending a variety of seminars, tours and receptions to learn more about the changes and developments that are taking place on campus.
Among the events listed above will be the Student Expo 2006 and your college is invited to participate! We hope you will select 1-2 student representatives from your college to take this opportunity to display an undergraduate or graduate project in this tradeshow style event. The expo will be held on Friday, October 27th, from 2:15 pm to 3:30 pm in the Statler Ballroom.
Presentations should be more visual than verbal to allow alumni the opportunity to visit as many student displays as possible. This is a fairly informal event as many people will be passing through in a short amount of time. Think posters and props to invite interaction and questions. Rattlesnakes, mummies and ethics are just a few examples of projects displayed during the last student expo.
Email Robin (rls78) if you are interested in participating.
Workshops
Pan-American Advanced Study Institute Conference In Chile
Pan-American Advanced Study Institute (PASI) in Renaca, Chile, January 8 - 18, 2007. PASIs can be thought of as summer schools, at the post-doc and advanced graduate student level. Others are also very much encouraged to attend, to present their work, to take part in the discussions and to enjoy the hospitality of our Chilean colleagues. The topic of our PASI is "Materials for Micro- and Nanoelectronics." We have received funding from NSF to pay travel and living expenses for some 20 US based participants (mainly post-docs and advanced graduate students). Please help spread information about our PASI to people who may be interested in taking part and to encourage them to apply for travel support. We particularly welcome applications from women and other underrepresented groups. Details about the (simple) application procedure can be found at our website.
American Film Institute Catalyst Workshop: Communicating Science and Engineering
The workshop goal is to provide scientists and engineers with the means to become more knowledgeable about motion picture projects to help Hollywood produce pictures with "better science."
